Floodgates torn down Soaked to the bone Deep, empty abyss Drenched and alone Emotional maelstrom Leaves a river of tears Flowing through the psyche All deluged but fears No currents of hope To rush through the despair No ebb to this sorrow; This drowning nightmare Distilling the pain In one last wave of time From the wound, blood courses Like a stream: sublime

The rage stews within my veins Unseen walls are reminders Self-inflicted pain Clears the head of the blinders Nerves flare from blunt force trauma The sensation - intoxicating Open wounds show life at its purest And the pain is exhilarating I have a need to destroy And tear myself apart A masochistic thrill I feel Wreckage is in my heart The flesh survives the frustration And leaves marks to remember The power of the body’s aggression And the strength to heal from failure I have a need to destroy And tear myself apart A masochistic thrill I feel Wreckage is in my heart

Time passes by I exist alone in the dark Striking stones in light’s void Looking for a spark Four walls enclose me But there’s no need to escape The world changed around me And I can’t abide the shape Years of solitude Embittered much Discomfort gained From human touch Embrace the husk Yet the heart is still For I’ve been consumed By isolation’s chill A vast wave of corruption Polluting souls Decency and acceptance Now pointless goals The sins of old embraced And enacted with glee Disgust filled my heart Now I bleed apathy Naiveté Fades with age My hope for mankind Was burned in rage Disillusioned By my despair The need to love Beyond repair And all that I’ve learned Tore down my will Now I embrace Isolation’s chill Years of solitude Embittered much Discomfort gained From human touch Embrace the husk Yet the heart is still For I’ve been consumed By isolation’s chill

It’s been almost nine years since the time we first met And the first one you love is so hard to forget Small in her frame and such pain in her eyes She had a passion for life that was hard to disguise A young girl of twenty and a mother of one I used to walk with her in the cold autumn sun As we grew closer, I thought nothing was wrong But success rarely happens in a wistful love song I know that she cared, but it wasn’t meant to be As love came in second to security I expressed my desire and was shut down outright For another man kept her in the day and the night I stayed a while longer, as a glutton for pain But hearing her kissing, it left me in shame So I pushed her away when she needed a friend And I pushed her away, ’cause I needed an end A few years later, I last saw her face Hatred rushed in and gave way to disgrace A failure so strong, it burned deep in my mind And to the beauty of others, I have become blind Live in my hole and block out all the pain Numbed to existence - it all seems mundane Now seared in my mind, an image of her name As a field of heather burns slowly in flame
